The Flower of Life

The Flower of Life

The “Flower of Life” is a work that was born after a dream that I did in a period of my life. The meaning is very deep and spiritual: optimism and sense of life are the basis of this work.

The base of the “Flower” is a forged iron spiral that represents the lifeblood: over the spiral there are several colours, same ones that I used to paint the 3 different flowers.

These colours symbolize the initial cells of our life, and they create the first flower that is located to the left of the work. The first flower represents Youthfulness and Adolescence, through many vibrant colours. There is also a symbolism among the colours: the intense red represents overbearing, excessive and disordered passion. This flower is obviously not ripe and therefore still incomplete, with a little vacuum in the centre, without other colours.

The second flower stands at the centre of the work and symbolizes Maturity in all its splendour and completeness. This flower is larger than the first one, with different and intense colours. At the centre of the flower there is the fulcrum of gold plated that distinguish maturity.

The third flower, on the right, downwards, is not the end of our existence, but the beginning and the transformation of a new life: The Spiritual one. This flower has a different shape to the other two and represents our Soul that continues its existence for eternity. Colours are different from the other two flowers, and certainly less lively and flashy but very sober and significant.

The “Flower of Life” can be realized in several sizes. The last version that has been done is very big and express all its importance: over 4 square meters (2.15m high x 2.10m wide), it consists of approximately 900 hand-cut pieces of various sizes. It is painted by hand, with the oil-on-iron technique.

It took six months to complete this work.

Our existence is not a coincidence, but it has a profound and intangible value. This work makes us understand this value:  we are not born to die, but to "live".
